Cloud Island World

My VR final project was to build a cloud island world with Unity based on the 3D models provided.

One thing I liked about the project

Unity definitely opened the door to a new world for me, not only of the VR experience but of the game and graphic design. The first time I opened the starter project, I was so excited about the scene and the lovely 3D objects made with Unity. The illustration below has been laid in my phone for a long time, and I finally found out a way to make them with the assistance of Unity. Thanks for this module^

One thing that was challenging about the project

Last week, I got familiar with Unity workspace & toolbar shortcuts and figured out how to place different items & materials. Unlike Rhinoceros and SketchUp (the other two 3D modelers I have used), I cannot find a function of snapping to a surface, which made me a particularly challenging experience to place items exactly where I need. Most of the time, the trees and stones are floating above my island. My guess is to use the different perspective views to put them down vertically and move around horizontally and then they worked well. However, I look forward to a better version with the function of snapping to surfaces automatically.

How long it took to complete the project

I spent four hours in total completing this project. The theme of my cloud island world is Snow, Mountains, and Christmas. I created three sub-scenes for users to explore the island. As going on to each next site, you will get more Christmas gifts. To connect between different points, I used a brightly colored tree to lead users towards the next place.
