Album Design

Creative brief

The album I chose is Narrated For You by Alec Benjamin. The album is a storied collection of his experiences of growing up — his family, friends, and love. The song clip comes from a very personal place, but I believe as he said, people can connect to it in their own way.

🎵 Alec Benjamin - If We Have Each Other

"One of Benjamin's greatest talents is the way he manages to transform his hopes, fears, and musings of his surroundings into something that feels grander than its separate components yet wholly relatable. It is a skill that takes not only a great level of lyrical prowess but overarching empathy." In this project, I am not just a designer, but a listener. His songs reminded me of the time I spent in middle school. When I was fifteen in school, most of the time I just sat at my desk, writing or drawing something. The inspiration is my sketchbook.

Mood board

I chose a handwriting font for the cover and drew the illustrations with my left hand. For the inside spread, I used the line pattern to show the story behind each song. Alec Benjamin is a real narrator. I love the feeling of those imperfect lines on the piece of paper. Even some overlay strokes and dirty spots, I just left them there. It is a significant difference between hand drawing and computer production for me.
